It's an Apocalypse, Let's Party!

So, obviously, the world didn't end yesterday.
I wonder if that guy in America feels really stupid now? I would've loved to have seen him standing there, all "wait for it...wait for it...wait....Oh. Darn."
My friend C came over for a sleepover last night, not because of the "apocalypse", but to watch Doctor Who together. At 6 o'clock we sat there with a packet of gummi bears between us, waiting to see if there'd actually be a giant earthquake and apocalypsey demons and all that jazz...but there was nothing. So we did a victory dance at not being dead.

But what if the world was actually going to end? I mean properly, not just based on the word of some religious extremist. What would you do? My answer is, of course, throw a giant party. Go out in style. You could do what you want with no regrets, since the world would be ending. You could watch 2012 or any other sort of apocalyptic-dystopian fiction film. And of course, you'd need a great playlist.

So, here are my musical choices for an end-of-the-world party:

Dog Days Are Over - Florence + the Machine
"The dog days are over, the dog days are gone. Can you hear the horses, cos here they come." You could so fit that to an apocalypse. Don't even think about playing the Glee version instead. I mean yes, Glee is good, but you can't go past Flo's full-on, hair-raising voice. It surpasses the cover by 100 years.

Let's See How Far We've Come - Matchbox 20
Everyone's bound to get emotional, especially if the song's accompanied by the video, which features historical moments from the 20th century onwards.

Uprising - Muse
The ultimate song of defiance. "They will not control us! We will be victorious!" Must be belted out by everyone at full volume.

Let It Be - The Beatles
Another one that's bound to make everyone sentimental.

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life - Monty Python
For the optimists.

I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
For the irony XD

We Are the Champions - Queen

If possible, play the live version. This is the one that everyone sings with their arms around each other, slightly drunk and delirious.

Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine
There is no song more epic than this. It's loud, it's crazy, it's the song you don't want your parents to know you listen to. Has to be played at a pre-apocalypse shindig.

And of course I'd include all my favourite songs on the playlist: "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" and "Brianstorm" by the Arctic Monkeys, "Talons" by Bloc Party, "Like it Loud" by Cassie Davis, "I've Just Seen a Face" by the Beatles, "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley, "I Believe You Liar" and "Sunday Best" by Washington, "Na Na Na" and "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance, "Bats" by Paul Dempsey, "Cold War" by Janelle Monae, "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls and so many more.

Wow, thank God there wasn't really an apocalypse, otherwise it would've been so hard to choose the playlist. XD

Enjoy your continued existence!
